Customer Review: If only there were an option for less than one star...
Summary: 1 Stars

I upgraded from an earlier version, based on being constanly nagged by Windows that my security was at risk due to an outdated virus program. I wasn't having any problems, just getting nagged by Windows.

Please, Please do not subject yourself to the pain this program will inflict upon your senses with never-ending annoying messages while you are tring to do something that requires your total attention (like trying to close a deal so you can feed you family).

I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and I am uninstalling, taking the financial hit for the three user - two year license, and moving on.

Customer Review: Don't even try it on a mini PC
Summary: 3 Stars

I have been using this on an acer aspire one and it pretty much cripples the machine if a scan is running. Internet activity is slowed down to a crawl if an update is in progress but other functions seem to be left unhindered. File searches and Microsoft Office seem to work while you are waiting for your webpage to refresh. I also notice an interesting amount of disk thrashing when the auto scan processes multiple files even after the scan has been completed no telling what it is doing in the background. This will probably be okay for the casual user but someone who uses process intensive tasks or cares about performance on their mini pc while browsing the web it is suggested you steer clear.

Customer Review: Waste of Money and Time

You couldn't pay me to use this software. I've been a computer engineer for over 30 years and use to love McAfee back in the DOS days. Their program is slow and bloated, which translates into slowing you and your computer down. If it's alright, I'd like to say that I now use Sophos and it has zero impact on our computers. I manage over 5000 computers from very fast to extremely slow (Intel P3's -- we're a school and can't afford all new computers). Sophos seems to have zero impact on performance even on our slowest systems.

Customer Review: Uses its alert function to display spam.
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is partially effective -- it seems to work well as an antivirus software but its spyware removal function is far from perfect. You will find that other anti-spyware programs are much more effective at removing spyware.

What I find most annoying about this product is that is uses its alert function (which should be used to display information about viruses, etc.) to display spam messages, such as: "Renew McAfee ahead of time and save 50%!"

I find it somewhat ironic that a software that is supposed to protect you from spam is actually a spammer itself.

(By the way, there is no way that I could find to turn off these spam alerts)

Don't buy.

Customer Review: Not recommended!
Summary: 1 Stars

Like many others this program came preinstall on my labtop, and I got a year free, then continued to pay for the service. It was a huge mistake. First off, whenever McAfee is installing an update, it will freeze my computer, and I am unable to access any programs. The rare times when the updates (which take forever to download) do occur without freezing my computer, my CPU usage goes through the roof. Every program is nearly paralyzed and sluggish. To make matters worse over the course of the last 18 months, two rogue software programs managed to get onto my computer, both potentially had the ability to wipe out everything on my hard drive, and NEITHER of them were caught by McAfee. In both cases, thanks for several websites and recommendations, I was able to remove both virus/"software" programs with FREE virus scanning software without any harmful damage to my computer. McAfee has been such an utter disappointment.
