I ordered this product & tried to install it on 2 different computers & it crashed both of them. The McAfee tech people could not get it installed one one of the computers after several of them tried. I bought XPS M1330 from Dell and of course it only runs Visa (can't go back to XP and can't move on to Windows 7).
I must purchase this McAfee for my Windows Vista.
After installed it and my sister was using my labtop and browse on the internet... *boom* Windows automatic shutdown and restart..... (failure....)
I reinstall fresh windows Vista and this McAfee.... on/off I still haven't see windows come up right....
I don't know if this MCAfee can protect virus to my boot sector... seems like there is virus it can't detect it....
waste of money on this one.

I bought this software to put on a new computer. I had used McAfee before so I thought to get the newest version. I installed it from the CD and started the program. The first few days seemed to go fairly good. Then the problems started: it slowed my computer to a crawl, it gave me error messages that said my computer was not protected, could not complete a download. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled from the internet (2-3 hours on dial-up). It worked okay for a while, even though my computer was still slow. Then every thing went wrong. I got another message that my computer was not protected, to check my license, and there was a error in the program files. I tried to download the files, but the program kept interrupting my downloads. I had to leave the software not working while I got some new software. I bought this for $60 - knowing that the rebate would make it free. It's not even worth $0. I installed it on my sister's laptop and it was a nightmare. She booted up and got the hourglass for a tremendously long time. Finally it stopped and gave her some sort of warning about an outside source trying to access the internet. She clicked on Block. Laptop freeze. Could not get anything to respond. Reboot. This time clicked on Allow Just This One Time. Same problem, freezed up. Reboot. Same warning message. Tried clicking on Allow but was unable to. This time there was no cursor at all. After 15 reboots and hours of waiting, no change. Called support line, and got an operator in India. Rep told her she must register the product. She explained she cannot even use her laptop, let alone access the internet. Rep told her to do an Uninstall by going to a certain website. (Hello, no internet access!) Rep told her I have told you all I can... There is nothing more I can do for you. Called support line again. Expained again. Rep transferred her to a Supv. Here she was able to get some help. Reboot. Press F8 over and over. Then walked her thru the steps for the Uninstall. Nightmare over. Software has now disappeared. Needless to say I will not be installing this crap, but tossing it right into the trash can. Save your time, money and frustration. Go another direction. Norton maybe.
